For over 40 years, Riemann Painting has proudly served the East Kootenay with full-service residential and commercial painting services. Through our craftsmanship, reliability, and neighbourly style, we’ve established a reputation as the region’s premier painting company.
Founded in 1981 by Mike Riemann, Riemann Painting began as a small local painting company with only a handful of staff members. Ten years later, Kim Wasylowich, now the owner of Riemann Painting, joined the company, starting off as an apprentice. After completing his apprenticeship, Kim stayed with the company mastering his skills and broadening his experience. When the time came for Mike to retire he was happy to entrust his legacy to Kim.
Over the past 19 years, Kim has turned Riemann Painting into the region’s #1 painting company and has expanded from 5 employees to 15. The secret to Kim’s success? Make life as easy as possible for each customer. Rather than subcontract their services, Riemann Painting does all its own work which allows them to maintain quality control with every project.
Riemann Painting is proud to have received the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce award for Entrepreneurial Spirit as well as the 2009 Best of Business Platinum Award from Kootenay Business magazine.

Kim Wasylowich
Owner / Estimator
Kim Wasylowich is the owner of Riemann Painting and a Red Seal Journeyman Painter with over 31 years of experience in the industry. His extensive expertise spans residential, commercial, and industrial painting systems, making him a seasoned leader in the field. Kim took the reins of Riemann Painting in 2003, where he has successfully built a cohesive team of skilled painters and fostered a work environment centered on continuous learning and professional growth. He is a strong advocate for apprenticeship training, believing it is essential in developing the most qualified and knowledgeable painters with a diverse skill set. Outside of work, Kim enjoys sailing off Vancouver Island or kayaking the tranquil Kootenay lakes with his family, embracing the beauty of the great outdoors.
Nicole Wasylowich
Operations Manager / Estimator
Nicole began her career with Riemann Painting in 2010 when her brother, Kim (the owner), invited her to join the team in a sales role. Over the years, her role has evolved, and today, Nicole serves as the Operations Manager, playing a crucial role in the company’s day-to-day success. Her ability to seamlessly manage operations has made her an integral part of the team, proving that working with family can be both productive and rewarding. When she’s not organizing the inner workings of Riemann Painting, Nicole enjoys exploring the Kootenay’s mountain biking trails or kayak camping on the region’s stunning lakes. Nicole also taps into her creative side through pottery, stained glass, and Ukrainian Easter eggs, nurturing her passion for art and craftsmanship.
Chris Barnett
Project Manager / Estimator
Chris Barnett is a Red Seal Journeyman Painter and the Lead Project Manager and Estimator at Riemann Painting. Since joining the company in 2007, Chris has honed his expertise through the apprenticeship program and 18 years of hands-on experience in residential and commercial painting. His attention to detail and deep industry knowledge ensure top-quality results for every project. When he’s not transforming spaces with paint, Chris can be found exploring the stunning landscapes of the Kootenay region, indulging in his passions for backpacking, hiking, and climbing.
Chris Weisschnur
Project Manager / Estimator
Chris joined Riemann Painting in 2015 and has grown into a key leader within the company. As a Project Manager, he plays a vital role in overseeing residential and commercial painting projects, ensuring they stay on schedule, within budget, and meet the highest quality standards. With 13 years of prior experience in the Vancouver region, Chris brought a strong foundation in managing large-scale painting projects. His expertise in organization, efficiency, and problem-solving has made him an integral part of Riemann Painting’s leadership team. Outside of work, Chris enjoys spending time with his children and expressing his creativity through photography and music.
Shawn Berg
Crew Lead / Log Home Specialist
Shawn is a Crew Leader at Riemann Painting and one of the company’s most experienced exterior finishing professionals. Since joining in 2011, he has spent the past 14 years mastering the art of painting stucco, siding, and refinishing wood beams and log homes. Known for his expertise in complex scaffold setups—earning him the nickname “The Human Forklift”—Shawn is the go-to expert for tackling challenging exterior projects. His commitment to quality craftsmanship is backed by a Zero Failures Wood Science certification from Sashco, ensuring the highest standards in wood preservation and finishing.
Alberto Hernandez
Crew Lead / Cabinet Refinishing Specialist
Alberto is a Crew Leader at Riemann Painting and a highly skilled wood finishing and exterior specialist. Since joining the team in 2011, he has spent the past 14 years mastering the art of staining, and lacquering—perfecting wood trim, doors, and stair railings to a flawless finish. Alberto is also a specialist in cabinet refinishing, known for transforming outdated or worn cabinetry into beautifully restored centerpieces. As a Crew Leader, Alberto brings extensive experience in exterior painting for single-family homes, multi-home developments, and large ski hill condo projects. His keen eye for detail and dedication to craftsmanship make him an invaluable part of the Riemann Painting team. When he’s not painting or staining, Alberto enjoys staying active in the gym and unwinding with a good movie.
Mark Lucas
Crew Lead
Mark is a Crew Leader at Riemann Painting, bringing over 23 years of experience in the painting industry. Since joining the team in 2018, he has played a key role in leading residential and commercial projects with precision and expertise. Before Riemann Painting, Mark spent 17 years running his own successful painting company in the Chilliwack region of BC, honing his skills in quality craftsmanship and project management. His deep industry knowledge and leadership make him a valued member of the team. When he’s not painting, Mark enjoys spending time with his family or casting a line in the many rivers and lakes of the Kootenay region as an avid fisherman.
Julian Bueckert
Crew Lead
Julian is a Crew Leader at Riemann Painting and a newly certified Red Seal Journeyman Painter. Since joining the company in 2018, he has dedicated the past seven years to refining his craft, becoming a skilled leader in both residential and commercial painting projects. Beyond painting, Julian is a passionate creative. In his free time, he enjoys writing and producing music, photography, and making the most of every season—skiing in the winter and biking in the summer.
Angus Liedtke
Crew Lead / Log Home Specialist
Angus joined Riemann Painting in 2020 and has been a dedicated apprentice, working towards his Red Seal Journeyman certification. Over the past five years, he has developed strong painting skills for both residential and commercial projects. His keen eye for detail, commitment to quality, and steady work ethic make him a valued member of the team. Angus takes pride in his craftsmanship and is always eager to refine his skills. His reliability and team-oriented mindset ensure that every project is completed with precision and care. He also holds a Zero Failures Wood Science certification from Sashco, enhancing his expertise in Log Home wood preservation and finishing. Outside of work, Angus is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys wandering in the wilderness, mushroom foraging, and fossil hunting. At home, he expresses his creativity through art and finds fulfillment in gardening. His passion for both his professional growth and personal interests makes him a well-rounded and dedicated part of the Riemann Painting team.
Nelson Ibarra
Painter
Nelson is a skilled painter with 19 years of experience in the industry, including the past 10 years with Riemann Painting. His expertise spans residential and commercial projects, and his craftsmanship, reliability, and positive attitude make him a valued member of the team. Customers and crew alike appreciate his enthusiasm and dedication to every job. When he’s not painting, Nelson enjoys spending time with his family, firing up the BBQ, savoring good wine, and listening to music. He’s also an avid camper and passionate fútbol fan.
Crystal Smitna
Crew Lead / Cabinet Refinishing Specialist
Crystal is an apprentice with Riemann Painting, working toward her Red Seal Journeyman certification. Since joining the team in 2022, she has spent the past three years refining her skills in residential and commercial painting. Through dedication and attention to detail, she has become one of Riemann Painting’s expert cabinet painting professionals. Beyond her passion for painting, Crystal enjoys spending time with her dogs as well as exploring the mountains and lakes nearby and expressing her creativity through photography. Her commitment to excellence and love for her craft make her a valued member of our team!
Jot Singh

Jot is an apprentice painter at Riemann Painting, currently working toward his Red Seal Journeyman certification. Since joining the team in 2023, Jot has quickly developed his skills, gaining hands-on experience in both residential and commercial painting projects. With three years of Site Supervisor experience in the construction industry, Jot brings a solid foundation in project management, teamwork, and attention to detail. His dedication to mastering his craft and consistently delivering high-quality results makes him an invaluable asset to the Riemann Painting team.
Dawson Rutledge

Dawson joined Riemann Painting in 2024 and has quickly become a valued member of our team. While new to the painting industry, his enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and commitment to learning set him apart. As a natural collaborator, he’s always ready to lend a hand and approach every project with a positive attitude. Since joining our crew, Dawson has been developing strong painting skills and is eager to master the craft. After working with Riemann Painting for three summer seasons, Will has recently returned to the team full-time. His experience with both residential and commercial projects has helped him develop strong painting skills, along with the ability to work seamlessly in a team or independently. Outside of work, Will is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, camping, backpacking, and skiing. His adventurous spirit and dedication to his craft make him a valued member of the Riemann Painting team!
